Community Action Duluth

problem

An expanding sense of purpose
Community Action Duluth (CAD) is a nonprofit in Duluth, Minnesota that has been working to eliminate poverty for over 50 years. Ten years ago, the nonprofit increased its focus to include the complex issues surrounding racism, empowering people of color, encouraging community engagement and changing public policy. Its multitude of innovative educational and advocacy programs have changed untold lives. However, there was no strong umbrella identity to encompass the many programs and initiatives the nonprofit was engaged in. This lack of identity meant the depth and scope of the agency’s work was going almost unnoticed by the public, as well as by the many people it sought to help.

strategic solution

A rebrand and a hardworking website
We started with our Stand Up Branding process. We audited the agency’s programs which included everything from transportation, health care, a free tax site and a farmers’ market to GED classes, financial coaching and more. We interviewed employees, board members and participants in the agency’s programs. We brought everything together to create a focused purpose and a unique position that each of the agency’s programs could live under. We developed a logo that reflected the agency’s areas of concentration through symbolism and color, and we created a website that made it easy for users to identify a Community Action program and to access the information they needed to participate in that program.
